Buyer Comments:The dealership was very busy and we had to wait a little longer than we wanted. The finance department was very interested in selling an extended warranty. I didn't take it because I think extended warranties are generally a bad deal (see consumer reports April 2008).
Pros:The internet department gave me a great teaser rate over the phone -- About $500 less than any local dealership. This is what brought me to their shop.
Cons:As with all car dealers, this and all other dealers make you feel as if you are trying to drive them out of business by negotiating for a lower price. They all say that I'm getting it fro their price -- They can't go any lower without losing money. However, when I pointed out that if they're not making a profit don't sell it to me, they don't accept my suggestion. They eventually accepted my price when i stood up and showed them I was going to walk -- Even though they sent another manager in to plead the higher price. In the end, I probably could have saved some more money by continuing to drop my bid until they finally turned me away -- Likely a mistake on my part. Best advice -- Eat before you get there, have your financing already worked out (Get a pre-approval letter -- With rate your lender will give you -- and take it with you), Arrive late in the afternoon -- when they're tired, Know exactly what you want (Shop around at other dealers first), Give a low-end bid and be ready and commiteed to walk if you don't get your price. I used realcartips.com to help me target the price I thought was a pretty good deal. In the end, the buyer already has what the dealers must have -- MONEY!
