Tips from Honda Accord Buyers

Coral Springs Honda
Coral Springs, FL
I was generally satisfied. I negotiated the price over email with the internet manager and there were no gimmicks. Just a straigtforward deal. What I didn't like was the financing process.

Pros: The internet manager was a pleasure to deal with. He gave me an off the floor price which is exactly what I paid.

Cons: I didn't like the financing process. The first offer was 4.74 percent which was way above loan rates I was getting with my bank. I had to ask for the 1.9 percent that was advertised.

I recommend Stanley. He was a great salesperson.

Pros: I was going to pay cash but they pointed out that I could get $750 off if I financed and paid it off in a month. Stanley was a good salesman with a great personality.

Cons: They had some pro package that included wheel locks and cargo mat. Neither I needed but they were "there" at a cost of $500 ... for a $100 mat and $60 locks. I was going to walk over it but they found me $750 off by using financing. Ok, fine. Then when I buy car, wheels locks weren't even on and I have to return. Like WTF? Why is it non negotiable but it wasn't even on in the first place.

Dealt with internet departments of various area Honda dealerships - easy to negotiate price. I made it clear I only wanted to be contact via email, but salespeople called NON STOP.

Pros: Convenient location.

Cons: Finance department tried to give me a very high (5.4% instead of the 0.9% special for qualified buyers) interest rate because I got a "good deal" on the car. I threatened to walk out and they obliged to give me 0.9%.

They were a bunch of liars there but I think I may have walked out of the place with an okay deal.

Pros: NONE

Cons: They lied a lotttt. They trick you with the prices on their websites and different classified ads they have posted on different online websites, and then they tell you a totally different story when you are about to pay for the car...so you end up paying way more than the price listed on the websites.

best price offed via email even before i walked in to the dealership ( searched all over Southern Cal. San Diego, Irvine, LA) no gimmicks, no game. very straight forward. Destination charge was included in sales. no funky business on the final sale doc. they did offer extra optional items at a reasonable price. I just didn't need them. I took the one of the last Accord.

Pros: dealer included mud guard and wheel lock at no charge. I really like their internet team. email exchage with Don, in person dealing with allen

Cons: not much to think of.. financing sales took a while..

Prime Honda
West Roxbury, MA
I've bought several Toyota's from Prime (formerly Clair) but this was the first time I've bought from their Honda dealership. The stickiest part of the deal was my trade-in, because we first worked on the price for the new car. Tips: Read and actually follow the advice on carbuyingtips.com, print out everything, use the spreadsheets and make sure you're aware of any factory to dealer incentives, the true value of your trade-in. It took me a while to remember that these guys aren't the enemy but just doing their jobs, but once I used that perspective it was a collaborative (and dare I say, enjoyable) experience. Make sure you know as much about the car you want, the car you're trading in and the sales process as they do!

Pros: Peter Zios was the sales guy and was excellent - upfront and honest throughout the process. I had almost gotten badly burned the day before by another dealer and my initial discussions with Peter were aggressive on my part. He was a real gentleman, being patient and working through the mountain of information I brought in to help me get a great deal on the car. Focus on service: after the first round of negotiation I was called by their Customer Service manager who wanted to follow up and make sure that they had done all they could to make me happy.

Cons: Tough to be negative, Prime have always been my dealership of choice because they've never made me feel that I'm just another sale - when buying my first few cars they would often talk me out of the premium level vehicle I could barely afford and into something lower priced that was comfortably within my budget.

this dealer was the only one in the area to come down off MSRP when a C4C trade in was involved. Dealer still honored rate they gave me 3 weeks ago when all other dealers in the area jacked up their price

Pros: no bait and switch like others in area who jack up price when clunker trade is involved. dealer came at $750 below invoice. i know could have gotten around $193xx without clunker but this was best deal considering my circumstances

Cons: NONE

Northwest Honda
Owings Mills, MD
Start with this dealership first. Shop around many dealerships in the area and have them beat each other's offers. Forward the emails to any dealership that requires proof of the price. That's why you contact strictly through email first, that way everything will be in writing. No word of mouths and such. I will consider shopping here again after running my Accord to the ground for the next 10-15 years and would recommend this dealership to others I know. Ask for sales associate Joan if you have to.

Pros: 1.) Excellent staff. 2.) Their staff were very polite, kept in touch and called/emailed me every 2 days or less. 3.) I didn't have to use the "let me talk to your manager" procedure. She did that for me on her own for anything I requested. 4.) The only dealership I've ever been to where they don't force you to buy a car on the spot!!!

Cons: 1.) None. 2.) Zero. 3.) Nada. 4.) Zilch. 5.) This isn't an exaggeration, I'm being serious here.

It was very easy to work with Ryan Wuerflein. He gave me a price of $16,000 right away when all other dealers were between $16,250 and $17,400. After one phone call, we agreed on $15,850, full tank of gas, and since the dealership is about one hour away from my house, Ryan delivered the car to my house where I signed all the paperwork. Don Anderson, the finance manager, approved me for 3.9% 60 month financing within 15 minutes.

Pros: I did not have to visit a dealership. All business was done via e-mails and phone. Car was delivered to my house. Honest and lowest price was given right away. Ryan, the sales person, was easy to work with.

Cons: None.

It took a while, the first two numbers they came to the table with were sky high, the first one was way off the actual sticker price by 2500. The second price they wanted me to pays was listed on the "Addendum" sticker and included a $995 dealer markup. I was appauled that they even tried to get me to pay that price, but I guess there's one born every day, so they had to try to see how much they could get from me.

Pros: Everyone was friendly and helpful. I had to go back the next day when I noticed a scuff on the bumper and door ding, everyone stopped what they were doing and walked me around to each person in the dealership to help me out. Awesome!

Cons: The manager guy who was doing the negotiating was one of those cheezy kinda guys, a little annoying. But other than that, not big on the cons.

We went to 4 dealers and phoned one. In most cases, there was always a "dance" around price. They would not give us a fixed price or a fixed trade-in value. They always asked."what do you want to spend" or how much do you want for your trade-in or how much can you pay per month. We just got up and left from two dealers because of being "jacked around". Initially, it was the same at Lute Riley, but the saleslady became our advocate and put the numbers together and presented a whole package to us for our consideration(a far better job than the sales manager did)She even got them to add wheel locks, trunk liner, pinstripe & mudguards at no additional cost

Pros: The saleslady and the finance officer

Cons: Doing the typical price "dance" as the other dealers who wouldn't tell you what they would offer for your trade and a detailed price (base plus added items) unless you wanted to pay MSRP plus dealer add-ons.We walked away from here the first time when sales manager could only tell us the difference between trade & purchase would be from 12-14 thousand dollars

Poor sales force, salesman Kirk Jack was rude and would not listen to what I was looking for.

Pros: internet price was ok

Cons: at delivery time had to find my car in parking lot after paper work was done, got no overview of car or options, no follow-up call. Sales Kirk Jack waitng on other people at same time. Dealer made mistake on VIN number and it took over a month to get corrected. General Manager Matt Thomas did not offer anything for my time and trouble I went through-please by else where!

Fairly satisfied. They did not offer drinks or snacks until after 2 hrs into price negoation, even then we had to ask for a drink. I found this unusual.

Pros: None

Cons: I felt they did alot of "sizing us up" before they even started talking or showing us cars. They had us fill out the customer info and asked about our finacial situation inside the office before we even got to the cars or what we want. I found this unusual as well.

Very good experience at this dealership. Only a 4 hour process from the first time I stepped into the dealership until I drove the new car home. 1st inquiry was made 6 weeks prior via internet sales. Since trade-in was involved, deal was done face to face when I was ready to purchase.

Pros: Good overall deal offered the first round, a trade-in was involved. The exact car I wanted, trim level, interior and exterior colors, was sitting on the lot. Less than 2 miles on odometer. Had been to 3 other dealers, none wanted to "play ball".

Cons: At document signing time, being offered warranties, interior & exterior finish protection, etc. I know, they are only doing their job.

Was shopping the 2008 accord since Sept 2007.....finally came across a deal in November when dealer was running a special where they were only making a penny on every deal so it all worked out.

Pros: Got the car at 0.01 over invoice. Very smooth transaction.

Cons: They tried telling me I owed $100 when I picked up my tags because the new 08 Accord V6 models have increased DMV fees. I told them it was their responsibility to know this when the deal was drawn up and refused to pay it.

wanted better price. great price is $24,363. Available at Buena Park Honda. But wrong color. That one had been sitting a long time.IT sold real fast.

Pros: okay. But like every dealer get you one way or another. Had to buy KARR alarm for 350 and Honda care extended warranty for 1495.

Cons: No trade in. But sold trade in to CARMAX and then used equity to buy new Honda. CARMAX gave great value for 2008 160K Honda accord lx!! $7500.

Great experience at this dealership. No BS.

Pros: They gave me the best price. I contacted nine dealerships in the area and Anderson's price was 1300 lower than the next best price. Funny thing is Anderson traded with one of the other dealers to get the car with the right color interior.

Cons: None

Got an excellent price as I was prepared with quotes from other dealers and what the true value of the car was worth from doing research. Go to edmunds.com and american express car buying for great tips and prices. I worked with the fleet/internet department at first, but as soon as I said I was also going to look at another dealership the manager was brought over. I automatically thought that I was going to be haggled and I wasn't, they really wanted my business and were willing to work with me for a price that was even below what the internet guy offered. Regardless I said I still wanted to go see the other dealer and then they brought the big guns out by introducing the owner. After a bit of time, I bought the car with almost all of the options included in the price, a discount on the alarm and warranty. He was willing to do what it took to gain my loyalty.

Pros: my loyalty was more important than the price of the car, at least that is how they made me feel. They knew that I had done my research so they offered me the best deal by beating out the competition. I felt that they let me know the truth about options, trim levels, etc as they didn't try to up-sell me to a higher trim, in fact they said that for resale and features that I shouldn't go up in trip as it wasn't worth it. now who tells you that when they could make a couple thousand more dollars?? So I was impressed with their honesty.

Cons: non really, the staff were all super nice and friendly, but I wasn't too happy when they had to bring out the manager and owner as i wanted to leave however I am glad I stayed to get a great deal

Satisfactory for the most part.

Pros: Internet Fleet Manager was great to work with- very nice guy.

Cons: Nothing major. All dealers play the same "BS" games when it gets down to the nitty gritty. The cards are ALWAYS stacked against the consumer no matter how much information the latter has. But, an informed consumer is still a wise consumer. Know your FICO score backwards & forwards before going to the dealer. And, it pays to have all 3 scores (Experian, Trans Union, Equifax).

Quite satisfied that we got a good deal. They beat the lowest internet quote I had got by $100, and we were happy with that. Some other dealers were not willing to go that low.

Pros: Pretty friendly, didn't waste our time. Let us drive the car home with a $1500 down payment, and return the next day to pay the rest.

Cons: Had to sign an arbitration agreement. Apparently most dealers in GA make you sign this, but not all.

This was a cash for clunker deal. I liked the people. pretty straight. Last day of clunker for them and me. So it was quick in negotiating price. They wanted some piece of my rebate. I let them have some. Basically I wanted 1000 over my best internet price. BTW Kelly Book is a joke. My car is worth 1000 at most.

Pros: Easy to work with. They have some computers w/ internet to play during wait time, but the PCs are slow. They give me an extra set of keys for other car by mistake. A BOGO deal?

Cons: Long wait. I was there for 6 hours. Maybe for the clunkers. Had to wait 3 hours for the loan guy. I was hungry and impatient and I ended up buying extended warranty w/ 1% DC bate on the rate of the loan. They forgot the floor mat. They forgot to unlock the sound system. I have to go there again.

Absolutely wonderful. This is probably the friendliest Honda dealers in Oklahoma City and I've shopped at them all.

Pros: Friendly, fast, relaxed atmosphere, no pressure.

Cons: Receptionist seemed more interested in her phone conversations than helping out customers. She was literally on the phone from the time I got there until the time I left, almost 2 hours.

The internet sales manager and sales assistant were very nice. All requests were handled in a prompt way before final sale.

Pros: Polite. Respect.

Cons: It took too long to get the deal done just before the store was closed. Not sure it was one of the trick to sell a car or a real mis-understanding when the general manager agreed on a price with different interpreting on a sales term later on when checking out. Almost get out of the door without closing the deal.

I started by getting Costco pricing for the Accord with the trim level I wanted, the next level up and the next level down. Starting with the Costco pricing I then called and visited several dealers, successively forcing the price lower as they competed against each other on price. At each dealer I looked looked over these trim levels in multiple colors and expressed interest in a comination they didn't have, telling them they would need to make a price concession to sell me a different color. In the end I was able to buy the exact color I wanted in the style I wanted.

Pros: Lower pressure than other dealers. Better pricing than other dealers.

Cons: The finance manager attempted to tack on a $300 anti-theft registration fee. He also made a mild attempt at persuading me to buy an extended warranty. He removed the anti-theft registration fee when I questioned it. I resent their attempt to charge this fee. They, like every other Honda dealers I worked with, could not offer me a discount on accessories, such as mud flaps and side mouldings.

Pros: Did not patronize or talk down to me because I am a woman. I never felt pressured by my salesman or anyone else. Everything was handled courteously and quickly. They had the car I wanted on the lot, ready to drive home.
