Tips from Toyota Venza Buyers

Used CarWoo.com premium service (5 offers per car). Accepted the lowball offer first but the dealer tried to add Destination and prep fees even though they were supposed to be included in the quote price. Cancelled deal with them and took the next best offer from DCH. Their offer was firm and the only thing added was TTL & Doc fees. Sales guys knew the best thing to do was finalize deal quickly so they could move on to Walk-Ins, so I was in and out pretty quickly.

Pros: Made a good offer, stood by it, and didn't try to add any BS "Mystery" fees (Rt.22 Toyota tried to add some nonsense called a "Millenium" fee). DCH was the best car sales experience of my life. Probably didn't get the absolute, stupefying, world-ending best deal, but my time and sanity are valuable and the sales guys at least knew enough to just get me out of the way and move on to a higher-profit mark.

Cons: No cons.

had pretty much done all my shopping and negotiating on-line or over the phone with a cople toyota dealers after we had decided on the Venza.

Pros: This dealership had "product specialists" who who demo the cars and explain them to you, if you decided to buy they turned you over to a "Manager" who can make final decisions. After being told the price of the vehicle we wanted and that it was not a demo or dealer car we went in and found out it had 5,000 on it. They did have a similar vehiles with only a couple hundred on which, after further discussion, he did sell us for the same price. All in all, there was not much sales pressure at this dealer.

Cons: -the internet folks don't seem to know some of the details related to the vehicles. I was told the vehicle I was interested in was not a demo or dealer car but in fact had almost 5,000 miles on it.

Tried to renegotiate the price agreed to with buying service but didn't try too hard.

Pros: Friendly. When told I would not be buying anything other than the car they did not try to sell other stuff.

Cons: It took over 6 hours even though we did not have to negotiate on price (used real car tips buying service--which was GREAT).

Great pricing and excellent treatment by dealer sales and financing. Timing (end of 3rd qtr-new models arriving shortly), economy (slump after cash for clunkers), vehicle sought (high end Venza) and great preparation on my part to talk pricing (TRUE CAR, NADA, KBB, EDMUNDS, etc) contributed to sale. Dealer honored negotiated price on a dealer trade unit that fell through the day of the trade. Ended up getting a 38609 MSRP unit for the 33495 negotiated price on the 37,457 MSRP unit. Highly recommend Pat Brown (sales) and Charles Phillips (financing), Research EVERY aspect of your vehicle (incentives, invoice, rebates, financing....) and don't be in a hurry. I never set foot in the showroom until I was within $400 of an acceptable deal. No advertised rebates or incentives at time of sale or within purchase range (did not wait until 10/6/2009 for next Toyota sales drive as to not risk losing the car or the great below invoice price). I suspect Gulf States Distrib or Toyota had hidden dealer rebates at time of sale to get below invoice price. All discussions took place over the phone over several days until I was within acceptable range. Toyota Motors beat my Credit Union's finance deal.

Pros: Best buying experience in over 10 new car purchases. Dealer eager to sell due to lackluster economy, timing of sale in qtr, 2010's arrival in a few weeks, and a high end unit. Received above tradein value on trade (02 Lexus RX300 w/154k mi). Newer showroom. Convenient location. Open long hrs. Sales and financing were exceptionally professional and went the distance to make the deal happen.

Cons: In order to get the best treatment BE PREPARED with researched pricing and incentives; dealer tried to play hardball at first then relented when it saw I was prepared to walk. IF you don't get the right sales and financing person the experience may not be a positive one as I saw others not as pleased.

Pros: Large selction, small town atmosphere. Local credit union loan application filled out at dealership - no hassles or problems. Got 0.5% loan reduction at CU by using direct deposst and being a debit card user.

Cons: can't think of any.
