8 Diesel Cars Cheaper Than Gas Models

September 12, 2013

New research by the University of Michigan released in June has found that if a car is available in both diesel and gas models, the diesel model is the more affordable one to own.

To prove this point even further, BankRate.com recently released a list of eight vehicles where the diesel version is cheaper to own than the gas version, thanks to overall savings in fuel and a slower depreciation rate.

This list is dominated by Volkswagen -- with models such as the Jetta and Golf -- and Mercedes-Benz, with the E Class, GL Class and M Class.

Below is the full list of eight vehicles where the diesel version is cheaper to own than the gas version based on three years of ownership and 45,000 miles.

If you're considering one of these vehicles, make sure to use the free CarWoo Deal Finder. Also be sure to check out the TrueCar Pre-Negotiated Prices to quickly compare real prices in your local region.
