Tips from Honda Civic Buyers
Palo Alto, CA
Internet price, no haggle. Fast transaction, about 2 1/2 hours from start to finish including test drive, trade-in, paperwork.
Pros: Low price. No trickery. Called to get OTD price and was spot-on without any surprises. Their Internet quote only beaten by 2 other dealerships but those places were much farther away.
Cons: Somewhat low trade-in valuation on my old car.
Purchased 2015 Honda Civic LX 4dr Sedan (1.8L 4cyl CVT) on Aug 14, 2015
Very Good. They tacked on a couple of thing like phantom footprint and permaplate. I didnt want to haggle over $600 when I was getting for $15491.
Pros: Eager to Please. I got a little bent with the finance guy and he got me a better interest rate.Eager to please me if my request were in reason.
Cons: Any other time I wasn't getting a brand new civic for less than 16K I would have negotiated taking the add-ons off. Good thing I did; the cars left over are back up to 17k now.

Keyes Honda Woodland Hills
Woodland Hills, CA
This dealership was a pleasure to work with. I had talked to many dealerships in the area and gotten a lot of quotes, but these guys were the absolute cheapest. However they also treated me with respect. I had gone to 2 other dealers, who used deceptive tatics to lure me into the dealership, but when I went to Keyes they gave me exactly what we had discussed through email and even through in some added bonuses. Because of our prior experiences we were skeptical that they wouldn't pull the rug out from under us but it never happened and I am completely satisfied with my purchase.
Pros: They are a no nonsense dealership and didn't waste time trying to up sell things I had already said I did not want. They did what they said and gave me what I wanted
Cons: My only problem is that they are located 40 miles from me, and we had do drive there 2x's while we waited for financing to be approved, but I was still glad they waited for delivery until after everything was approved.
Purchased 2013 Honda Civic EX 4dr Sedan (1.8L 4cyl 5A) on Aug 7, 2013
West County Honda
Pretty quick and easy since I already asked them for an internet quote
Pros: Sales reps are very knowledgeable about the car. The people there are extremely friendly and are not pushly like other dealers.
Cons: They make the process of car buying more time consuming than it should be. Had to constantly wait for the manager during the negotiation process.

Cars Direct/Thousand Oaks Honda
El Sugundo, CA
Went with Cars Direct. Previous experience was good. They found the car (manual, kind of hard to find) rather quickly. It was "swapped" (exchanged) with another car to a local Honda dealer. The final transaction was handled at the dealer (see cons below).
Pros: Not sure if there were any (see Cons).
Cons: Both Cars Direct and the local dealer were all over the fact that the car "supposedly" had LoJack installed. We told them we didn't want it. The LoJack price went from $1,000 to $600 to $400 to $198 and our answer was always NO! I even asked the dealer when it would be removed. He said "while we were doing the transaction." Yet he never called/emailed anyone. I say it was NEVER installed. Oh, yea, even though we paid cash we still had to "see" the finance guy who again hit us with all the "add ons." How many times do I have to say NO! We went with Cars Direct to avoid these hassles so I will think twice before using them again. It took us 2-1/2 hours (including the test drive) to get out of the dealer. My friend said his two transactions took 30 minutes. Both were cash sales. Lastly the Cars Direct guy said we couldn't get the 0.9 financing. The dealer said we could. But with the check drawn and myself leary of the situation already I opted out even though I likely would have saved about $500 with the money trickling out of the bank over 3 years. I'm also getting the feeling I paid a bit more than I should even though Cars Direct offers a 3 day guarantee if you find a lower price. I gave a "fair" rating, but feel it was between "Fair/Poor" for the record. Everyone was polite and professional, but get a clue, No means NO!!!
Purchased 2010 Honda Civic Sdn 4dr Man LX-S on Apr 9, 2010
clean, but no communication.between dept
Pros: the sales man was great. dennis was ok.
Cons: financing dept starts off with 6.95% they tried to sell me everything..i wanted to go through my own credit union better rate he reduced his rate. why start @ a higher rate then.... you have to fight to get things corrected.i felt as though this finacier was just trying to rob my money.had to wait days to get the car i wanted..when it comes bumper had a chip on it the didnt want to fix. then promised to fix it . by sanding and painting. when i arrived for pick up. promiss not fullfilled..i wanted an even further discount. which after arguing to higher ups they cut 200 dollars off cost of vehical...i would not have gone through this much crap..just do what you promise
Purchased 2009 Honda Civic Coupe LX 5-Spd AT on Nov 14, 2009
Loma Linda, CA
This was a cash for clunkers deal. The negotiated price was $15,538 and add-ons were $3075. This was the best price in the LA Area. It took me about a month to do all the internet dealings and had to travel about 60 miles to the dealer, but I think worth being $500 less than the next quote nearer to me.
Pros: The internet department was awsome, and honest. My quote was honored even after a couple weeks because I still needed my pink slip for the Cash for Clunkers deal, which ends this weekend. Very easy to deal with.
Cons: I did not have a great selection to choose from and ended up paying for options I did not want, but I got the price I wanted from the main vehicle. I really did not need the added navigation...

Jerry Damson Honda
Very easy transaction. Worked with Roger Martinez over the internet and then formalized the deal over the phone. Beat other dealers in North Alabama by $350 to $765. Good selection of vehicles. No pressure to buy optional equipment or extended warranties.
Pros: Local dealership. Five minute drive from the house.
Cons: Many customers test driving and buying vehicles the Saturday that we purchased the car, however, we were there less than one hour to select the car and complete the transaction.

Sale representative is nice. Sale manager is good. But financial guy is bad.
Pros: sale representative is nice.
Cons: Several guys, except sale representative, told me that Honda will call me for a survey. My review is critical for the sale representative's salary. They told me that it is a non-perfect-mean-failure survey. Kind of pushing me to give the perfect review.

Excellent dealer, no hassles, no negotiating, no hidden fees. Just a straight up dealership. I made an offer, they accepted along with another dealership. I asked them to go lower and they did. Had the exact car I wanted in stock.
Pros: The fact that there were no hidden fees. The dealer was honest from the second I walked in. He told me he could beat any price and he did.
Cons: They did try to add on a few optional packages at the end which I politely declined.
Purchased 2009 Honda Civic Sedan LX-S 5-Spd AT on May 15, 2009
New dealership (5 years old), nicest facilities I have seen in the area including Acura dealers. Salesmen are nice and neat, in "uniforms" of Honda embroidered dress shirts, very consistent in their stories. Sales is no pressure, no special extras or gotcha's. If the car has alloy wheels, locks are free. They were willing to deal by email, giving good, though not the best price, but lowest 3 out of 8 dealers. The sales manager and I closed over the phone after hearing what other dealers had offered. In fact, I was going to purchase from another dealer, and he sweetened the deal by lowering the price another $150 for my trouble to drive a little further than the other dealer.
Pros: The car market has changed a lot. It is a buyer's market. All dealerships treated you well, but this one is among the best I have dealt with. Mad e a deal over the phone, set up a time to come in, and pick up the car. Filling out the paperwork was not a big deal.
Cons: As always, the finance office tried to pressure you into something else, and tried to increase the price by saying, oh I did not know that 19850 was out the door price. When I said it was, no problem, and he drew up another contract with 19850 as out the door.
Purchased 2009 Honda Civic Sedan EX-L 5-Spd AT on Mar 29, 2009
Went online and did a price qoute from 10 dealers. After a whole bunch of calls. I was able to find Ali Maloky who beat everyone qoutes. My advantage was I had 2 local dealers with the car I wanted on their lots. I let them both know who gave me the lower price until the other dealer couldn't beat the other one. Sweet. I went from $17000 to $16500 + Tax & Lic
Pros: No B.S dealer. Told him want I wanted & nothing else. I gave him 1 hr notice I be down there and he had the car detailed and ready for me to test drive. The paper work took only 1hr and no pressure to buy the Alram, protection, ect.. & no extra b.s. He even filled my tank of Gas & gave me a voucher for a fill up.Loved it. 5 star place all the way.

Overall experience was pretty good. Pretty low pressure. Experience after my purchase has been fantastic.
Pros: Very friendly. As soon as I mentioned not caring for the splash guards and other "accessories," they offered to throw them in for free rather than remove them.
Cons: They sprung a "non-negotiable" documentation fee on me right at the end.

Mike Harvey Honda
I told him I was looking for a good price straight off the bat and the sales person was very accomodating. Not pushy, unlike the large, chain-linked dealers at the auto row. You can gauge how the dealer will treat you just by how you are approached.
Pros: NOT like trained sales robots who throw sales pitches at you and run to your car when you pull up to the dealer like vultures.
Cons: Smaller, not much parking. Not very accommodating when it came to dropping my car back off for application of my protection package & detail.
Purchased 2008 Honda Civic Si Sedan 6-Spd MT w/ Nav on May 25, 2008
It was good until I kept asking for a lower price. In Canada we have a DX-G package, which includes a/c, cruise and power doors and windows, etc.
Pros: Typical dealership...
Cons: They nickle and dimed everything. They promised me wheel lock nuts for free, but when I got a lower price from the manager, they took back the wheel nuts. Good thing I didn't really want them anyways. But this just seemed very petty.

Worked with Robert Pullo to get a great price. Very little negotiating involved, told him what I wanted to pay and he made it happen.
Pros: Had price set for new vehicle, then we negotiated the price for the trade in. Told him what I wanted for it, he fought to get me an extra 400. Did all negotiating via emails and phone conversations. They even threw in splash guards and wheel locks free of charge.
Cons: None. Most professional dealership in MD. Salespeople don't try no tricks.

Negotiation, Negotiation, Negotiation. DRESS UP PROPERLY, I saw a gentleman even show up with suit, as you respect dealer and salesman, they willing to do business with you. So far they are the best Honda Dealership I ever know, way better than domestic dealership (Chevy, Dodge, Ford)
Pros: Very negotiable, salesman is quick and on point.
Cons: Check before you get the deal done, I don't really have anything to complain about the dealer, make sure you know that NEED TO MAKE MONEY FROM YOU, do not expect they work for free, and you can't expect the impossible deal, when the deal is way too good for you, they will not lose money to sale to you, make the deal that make them happy as well.

They had previously had a special price of 13595 for 2012 civic lx but they said it was a misprint and that had already been sold. So since I was already there worked a deal to 16,000 including all weather mats. The dealership was very friendly and were not pushy whatsoever. Very friendly and attentive the moment my mother and I walked in. Had a great experience at the first local dealership I went to as well, but they couldn't offer me the price I wanted. But am super happy to get the price we wanted and worked with a dealership that made the experience as pain free and smooth as possible. This first ever car buying experience was actually quite thrilling. Never knowing what's going to be the end result. I still feel as if I could have gotten the car at a better price, but I was playing chicken at that point. But still happy with the price.
Pros: Friendly, not pushy, patient, knowledgeable
Cons: The manager barely made eye contact with me nor shook my hand. He only shook the hand of my mother, and I was the one paying for the car. That irked me. I was completely invisible to him. But the sales rep was awesome and attentive.

Invoice price disclaimer: I believe that is what I was told but I don't have it in writing so I can't be sure. Conclusion: Not sure if I would do business with them again. Poor communication and not that great a price. Side note: Do not buy from -Tampa Honda Land-, their finance department tried to lie about my creditworthiness and my FICO. luckily I had printed copies of my FICO and credit report in hand to call them out. They then said they couldn't get me a good APR because I was a "first time car buyer" which was also a lie. No other dealer I have been to has ever tried that on me.
Pros: Friendly people. Finance dept. didn't try to lie to me about my credit worthiness in order to jack up the interest rate, which is something Tampa Honda Land tried. Good location, for me at least. Always willing to negotiate (but still not necessarily the best prices).
Cons: GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING! Even then it will still be ignored. They provided my personal and financial data (SS#, income, contact info, etc.) to third parties without my consent. Something I have in writing they were not allowed to do. Wrong delivery date. Two weeks is -not- tomorrow. They said the car was already at a sister store and they had to drive over and pick it up. Using the VIN, I found out it hadn't even left the IA plant. A week into it they even told me it was at the Port of Tampa, coming in from Japan. No joke. Charged $55+ to fill out the DMV tag transfer paper, wouldn't let me do it myself. Charged $600 dealer fee, some would argue that is normal but most dealers are very negotiable when pitted against each other. Poor communication: what you say and what they actually hear are two different things.
Purchased 2012 Honda Civic EX 4dr Sedan (1.8L 4cyl 5A) on Jun 30, 2011
Pros: No pressure. Good people. Treated me with respect. Victory Honda of Plymouth had ridiculed me when I gave my price before finally agreeing to my price, but off course I did not buy from them for that reason.
Cons: Just stick to your price though.

I researched the internet and used zag.com to have dealers compete for my business. I received an internet quote of $15,538.48 and drove the 60 miles to buy the car under cash for clunkers. Spreen Honda was easy to deal with and kept their word by honoring their quote for more than 2 weeks, while I gathered my paperwork.
Pros: Spreen Honda has a great internet department that really works hard electronically to get the best deal for the customer. Jose Medrano and Michelle Denney are very honest and great to work with.
Cons: I ended up buying $3000 woth of extras that came with the car, that I was not prepared to purchase at the time. I got about 10% knocked off of the extras though...

STREATER SMITH HONDA
It was an average experience. We are in the market to purchase another Honda in the very near future, but do not think we will go back to this dealership. The cons outweighed the pros.
Pros: The salesperson was pleasant and helpful, not pushy. The price of the vehicle was right, right from the start and we got an even better price when asked for it.
Cons: The GM or Finance Mgr was rude, with a take-it-or-leave-it attitude, when we were dealing on the scrap value for the CARS rebate, which we ended up not utilizing anyway. Very sour note for this dealership.
Purchased 2009 Honda Civic Sedan EX-L 5-Spd AT on Jul 30, 2009

Very satisfied. Negotiated price with Internet Sales Manager via emails. Was in and out of the dealership in less than two hours, including two test drives.
Pros: After informing Internet Sales Manager that my lowest quote was from another dealer, she beat that price by $200. No additional dealer fees or price negotiations after I accepted their price and THEN informed them I had a $4500 "cash for clunker".
Cons: Their dealer fees included installed splash guards for $219 which is $70-$90 more than the other dealers I received quotes from. However I received a 25% internet discount for that accessory. After test driving the first car, they had waiting for me when I arrived, I noticed swirl marks in the paint and a scratch on the hood. But there was no argument from the salesman when I informed him I wanted to purchase a different EX on the lot.

It was a good dealership it was quick and smooth it was a very fast process and they met with my demands and needs.
Pros: He was a smart guy gave me the stories just like every other dealer but i liked the fact that he didnt jump all over me he just let the car show itself in a way.
Cons: worst quality was that we had a little argument over the price i wasnt going to buy the car until he met my budget.

Never went to dealership...
Pros: E-mailed inquiry and within a day agreed to price, color, options, delivery and a date for transaction. Ryan was professional and courteous.
Cons: Dealing with all the Twin City Honda dealerships. I tried for over over thirty days to get a good price without any satisfaction.

It was very easy to work with Ryan Wuerflein. He gave me a price of $16,000 right away when all other dealers were between $16,250 and $17,400. After one phone call, we agreed on $15,850, full tank of gas, and since the dealership is about one hour away from my house, Ryan delivered the car to my house where I signed all the paperwork. Don Anderson, the finance manager, approved me for 3.9% 60 month financing within 15 minutes.
Pros: I did not have to visit a dealership. All business was done via e-mails and phone. Car was delivered to my house. Honest and lowest price was given right away. Ryan, the sales person, was easy to work with.

Asked for an online quote first and was quoted 17,197.00 for the Civic base LX. Good experience overall, not too much buying pressure. Had to haggle a bit to get a better deal, in fact I refused to sign the purchase agreement / estimate until they agreed to offer me 3.9% and reduce the purchase price. They finally came down almost $2,000.00 when they though I was going to walk out. The numbers are a bit skewed as they included miscellaneous fees like Nitrogen and an Appearance package but the paid me $4,000.00 for my trade in that was worth about $2,000.00
Pros: Friendly atmosphere and pleasant salesman. Didn't feel much pressure to buy.
Cons: Finance person tried to include extended warranty and other services / products I didn't want or need. Would appreciate a more realistic price upfront instead of having to negotiate for it.

Honda Of Tyson's Corner
Pretty satisfied. I knew they would be hurting this month due to the economy so I went in at 400 on the last Sunday of the month.
Pros: Ask for "T" (his real name is really long). He was straight up about the whole deal. His sales manager Larry was the same way. I gave them an OTD price on the very low end and budged a few hundred in the end.
Cons: They really tried hard to get me into a finance deal. They first offered 5.5. I am pre-approved for 5.21 already with one application outstanding. They ended up with a 4.9% 48 month offer.

Loved it, best experience I've had at a dealer.
Pros: No BS'ing around... They gave me a quote over the internet, the best price in the area. No surprises at all when I arrived. I paid exactly what the quote said. From the time I arrived at the dealer to the time I was on the road in my new car was less than 30 minutes.
Cons: Really nothing except they are not close to my house. I wish I could go back to them for any needed service I might need.

Working with senior staff, I had an excellent transaction. Working with lower ranking staff, not so much.
Pros: Willing to work with my budget, were honest, unlike other people in the area I talked to. Offered 1.9% financing for first 36 month, decline to take it.
Cons: Incompetent lower staff completing the transaction. They grabbed a car for my friend with holes in the bumper (we had to redo all the paper work to get another car for her) and there were scratches on my model that I insisted on being fixed before I bought
