Top 10 Best Selling Cars

September 9, 2010

Big automakers had what looks to be a bad month, but when factoring in last year's Cash for Clunkers program, the numbers don't look too dismal, as the popular government program dramatically boosted the sales of many models, including the Toyota Camry, Honda Civic, Honda CR-V and Honda Accord.

Toyota (down 31.4%), Honda (down 30%), Nissan (down 27%) and GM (down 24.9%) saw the most dramatic declines.

Japanese automakers were the biggest gainers during Cash for Clunkers, hence the three topping the list.

GM's decline was partly due to strong sales gains by Pontiac and Chevrolet in August 2009.

The best selling full-size trucks - Ford F-Series, Chevrolet Silverado and Dodge Ram - performed well this month, and were the only models on the list (besides the Hyundai Sonata) to post positive gains. Honda remains the automaker with the most cars on the list with three models.

Here is the list of the top 10 best selling cars for August, 2010:

  1. Ford F-Series (47,652)
  2. Chevrolet Silverado (34,084)
  3. Toyota Camry (30,764)
  4. Honda Accord (25,148)
  5. Honda Civic (22,803)
  6. Hyundai Sonata (21,399)
  7. Toyota Corolla (20,280)
  8. Honda CR-V (19,451)
  9. Dodge Ram (18,995)
  10. Nissan Altima (18,491)
