Real Prices of Compact Cars

May 31, 2018

If you're in the market for a new compact car, now is a great time to be shopping because sales of these vehicles have taken a nosedive as consumers gravitate toward SUVs.

Take a look at the following table I compiled using TrueCar's average selling prices. These days, MSRP doesn't mean much since hardly anyone expects to pay that price. But it can be difficult to determine which competing models are actually cheapest without knowing what kind of average discount they're selling for.

The default view shows the biggest average discount you can expect for each model this week, with the 2017 Kia Forte5 having the biggest discount (22.16% after incentives).

You can sort the table by clicking on any column. For examle, if you want to see the cheapest sedans, sort by "Avg" column and you'll see that the 2017 Kia Forte has the cheapest average selling price - at $15,379.

I hope you find these tables useful. As always, I recommend you use TrueCar No Haggle and Edmunds Price Promise to see the best deals being offered in your local area.

My Recommendation for Car Shoppers

TrueCar, Edmunds, and 1-800 Car Show are the quickest way to see the lowest car prices in your area. These sites show you no-haggle prices from dealers closest to you - and the deals are usually really good. This should be the first step you take when negotiating your car price. Follow this up with my checklist to make sure you squeeze out every last bit of savings.

California Residents - Important:

There is a new online car buying service called Roadster, available only to California residents, which I highly recommend you try - especially if you hate the stress of haggling with a car salesman. They provide an expert concierge who negotiates the price of the car and delivers it to your home with zero hassle - you never have to interact with a dealership. Here is my in-depth review of Roadster and why I recommend it.
