States With the Highest Car Insurance Rates

Drivers in Michigan pay the highest auto insurance rates in the nation, an average of $4,490 - according to a new study from CarInsuranceQuotes.com. Other states with high car insurance rates include Louisiana, Kentucky, Mississippi and West Virginia.

At the bottom of the list, Massachusetts residents pay just $1,128 a year on average. The next-cheapest were North Carolina, Alaska, Hawaii and Iowa.

My Recommendation for Car Shoppers

TrueCar No-Haggle and Edmunds Price Promise are the quickest way to see the lowest car prices in your area. These sites show you no-haggle prices from dealers closest to you - and the deals are usually really good. This should be the first step you take when negotiating your car price. Follow this up with my checklist to make sure you squeeze out every last bit of savings.

California Residents - Important:
