The Weekly Summary - April 14, 2016

April 14, 2016

I'm trying something new today - a summary of recalls, car comparisons, and car reviews from the past week, curated from the top sources. This will allow my readers to easily keep up with the latest car buying news as you shop around for your next vehicle.

This Week's Car Reviews

NY Times
2016 Chevrolet Malibu

"It’s apparent that General Motors listened to owners, and perhaps more important, those who did not buy the outgoing model. The biggest obstacle keeping this svelte sedan from gaining market share is simple brand loyalty to other automakers. Wise shoppers will surf into a Chevy store to check one out. Malibu has hit high tide in a fiercely battled segment."

2016 Nissan Titan XD (Video Review)

Digital Trends
2017 Audi A4

Cars designed for mass appeal tend to play it a little safe, and given that the A4 is Audi’s best-selling vehicle, there are no big surprises here. The 2017 model is a people-pleaser through and through, one crafted to do everything competently and age well with the passing years. I happen to identify as people, however, so I found driving the A4 to be a thoroughly pleasing experience through and through.

Car & Driver
2017 Porsche Boxster / Boxster S

"Both Boxsters are capable and rewarding cars worthy of the name they bear. Had their flat-six-powered predecessors never existed, we’d be singing their praises without hesitation. But these are driver’s cars not race cars. They exist to produce pleasure not lap times. And using that as the yardstick, Beetle sounds aside, it’s hard to say that this Boxster is better in every way that matters to a sports car buyer"

Car & Driver
2017 Mercedes-Benz S-class Cabriolet

"Although Mercedes foresees the cabriolet selling mostly in warm-weather environs, it goes to great lengths to make top-down driving comfortable in sub-optimal temperatures"

This Week's Car Comparisons

Kelley Blue Book - KBB
Subcompact SUV Comparison
RankedVehicleStarting MSRPConsensus
12016 Honda HR-V$20,015Clearly the one to beat in this class, it has the goods
22016 Buick Encore$24,990One of the class's leading sellers for good reason
32016 Mazda CX-3$20,840More of a fun-to-drive hatch with available all-wheel drive than a spacious SUV
42016 Jeep Renegade$18,990A good, solid, safe bet for the least amount of SUV you can buy. And even though it's car-based, you can still get one with legit off-road aspirations.
52016 Fiat 500X$20,900Easy to love from afar, hard to recommend
