Cars With the Best Safety Technology

Next to price, the most important characteristic a car buyer looks for is safety. The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety recently rated the systems vehicles have to help prevent front-end crashes. The test reportedly looks at how well a vehicle's forward-collision warning and autonomous-breaking system works, and how effective the system is at avoiding collisions at both 12mph and 25mph.

Through these new tests, seven 2014 models -- all with starting prices under $40,000 -- reportedly ranked "superior", the highest rating. Vehicles included the Subaru Legacy Sedan, Cadillac ATS Sedan, and Volvo XC60 SUV.
